Archipelago of Madeira
In the Atlantic Ocean just 500 km from the African continent and 1000 km from mainland Portugal (1h30m flight from Lisbon), is the archipelago of Madeira.
This, in addition to the island of the same name, consists of the island of Porto Santo (Golden Island) 90 km NE of Funchal), the Desert Islands (only 3 uninhabitable islands - Deserta Grande, Bugio and Ilhéu Chão, 20 Km SE of Funchal) and the Savage Islands, which constitute a natural reserve, 280 km from Funchal.

Madeira Island, often called the "Pearl of the Atlantic", "Island of Love," Eden or Paradise, all of it is a natural park with its 728 km2 of surface (57 km long EO and 22 km wide NS ) to save more than 700 species of higher plants, 100 of them endemic (not seen in any other part of the world).
Its highest point is Pico Ruivo (1862 m).
Administratively, the island covers 10 counties and 52 parishes, with a total population of approximately 260.000 inhabitants, 120.000 living in the capital of this region, Funchal.

Funchal
Funchal is a city in the Portuguese island of Madeira, the capital of Madeira. The city matches your county, and is 76,25 km² in size and subdivided into 10 parishes. The name of the city due to the abundance of fennel found by the first inhabitants.

In this county dominates the tertiary sector, closely linked to tourism in the areas of trade, catering and hotel services followed by the secondary sector, with the industries of construction, dairy products, flowers and crafts.
In agriculture predominates Vine cultivation followed by banana and finally ornamental flowers and tropical fruit. Cattle have some (little) importance, especially in poultry, rabbits and sheep.
The port of Funchal is a tourist center and with great importance for European cruises calling for Morocco, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and Brazil.
