	In 2005, the APDR committee chose the city of Faro to receive the XI Congress, whose main theme was "The role of universities in the development of regions". At a time where the European university life is confronted with the Process of Bologna and after some decades of expansion (quantitative and territorial) of superior education in Portugal, this meeting was the occasion to reflect on this relationship between the universities and the territory development.
