A. Spatial Analysis Using Stata (in english)
Instructor
João Cerejeira (Universidade do Minho) Location: University of Aveiro Registration fee 50€ Schedule: from 10 a.m to 5.30 p.m Description Exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) refers to a set of techniques designed to find pattern, detect anomalies, or test hypotheses and theories, based on spatial data. Combining ESDA with econometrics, spatial econometrics is a subfield of econometrics that deals with spatial interaction (spatial autocorrelation) and spatial structure (spatial heterogeneity) in regression models for cross-sectional and panel. Such a focus on location and spatial interaction has recently gained a more central place not only in applied but also in theoretical econometrics namely in specialized fields such as regional science, urban, and real estate economics and economic geography Recently, Stata added a new suite of commands for estimating and interpreting the parameters of spatial autogressive models. This workshop provides an introduction to spatial autoregressive models and to these new commands, starting from the download of an appropriate shapefile from the web to the estimation of a spatial regression with different types of spatial lag terms. Topics 1. Finding and preparing data 1.1 Thematic maps 1.2 Finding a shapefile 1.3 Creating the Stata-format shapefile 1.4 Merge the translated with our existing data 2. Analyze the merged data. 2.1 Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA): the spatial weight matrix (W) and spatial autocorrelation 2.2 Testing whether ordinary regression is adequate - The Moran test 2.3 Models with a spatial lag of independent variables 2.4 Models with a spatial lag of the dependent variable 2.5 Models with spatially autoregressive errors 3.
