The Organizing Committee of the 13^th National Meeting of APDR / 1^st Congress of Nature Management Conservation / 1^st Portuguese Speaking Countries Meeting for Regional Science proposes the following list of Hotels at a special price. What to do in Terceira Island?

Half-day Programs
(3 a 4 hours)

1 – Program Half-a-day in Terceira – West Side of the Island

Departure from Angra do Heroísmo direction to West Zone of the Island, passing by the Caldeira Guilherme Moniz and following by the Algar do Carvão zone, situated “at the heart” of the island. The program then follows direction to Biscoitos, with a visit to the Wine Museum and to the swimming areas. On the way back to Angra do Heroísmo, passing by the opposite northen part of the Island it is possible to pass by Altares, Raminho and Serreta where there is a beautiful Forestall Park, and following after to the Doze Ribeiras, Sta. Bárbara, Cinco Ribeiras, with a final visit to the Cheese factory of Cinco Ribeiras.

2 – Program Half-a-day in Terceira – Southeast side of the Island

Departure direction to Monte Brasil, situated in the extreme of the city and also extreme of the island. Following East we pass by Ribeirinha, Porto Judeu where Salga Bay (Baía da Salga) views can be appreciated, and then through São Sebastião, Porto Martins, to visit to the swimming areas, Cabo da Praia and finally a small stop in Praia da Vitória. The program continues with a special visit to the high hill (Serra do Cume) where the unique patchwork landscape of the Terceira Island can be appreciated.

3 – Program Half-a-day in Terceira – City Tour with shopping

Walk to the centre of Angra do Heroísmo, UNESCO World Heritage City since 1983. The most interesting monuments to visit are: a Memória, Convento de São Francisco, Convento Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Solar de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Fortaleza de São João Baptista, Igreja da Misericórdia, Museu de Angra do Heroísmo, Jardim Duque da Terceira, Casa do Conde Vila Flor, Praça Velha, Paços do Concelho, Palácio dos Capitães Generais, Convento da Esperança, Igreja da Sé, Palácio Bettencourt, Antigo Paço Episcopal , Convento de São Gonçalo, Solar da Madre Deus, Hospital da Boa Nova, Castelo de São João Baptista. In between visits to monuments stops can be made in cafés to drink a coffee and taste the typical sweets or in small shops to buy Azorean articrafts.

Full-day Programs
(7 a 8 hours)

Departure direction to Monte Brasil, situated in the extreme of the city and also extreme of the island. After lunch, a walk trough the city ending in Facho, to enjoy the special views into the city. The program continues with a special visit to the high hill (Serra do Cume) where the unique patchwork landscape of the Terceira Island can be appreciated. Continuing by the more interior part of the island we will visit Algar do Carvão and the Furnas do Enxofre (where the “heart of the island” is situated) as well as the Tentadero (in summer time there is even the opportunity to see a Tenta). The program follows direction to Biscoitos, with a visit to the Wine Museum and to the swimming areas. On the way back to Angra do Heroísmo, passing by the northen part of the Island we come across Altares, Raminho and Serreta, where there is a beautiful Forestall Park, and following after to the Doze Ribeiras, Sta. Bárbara, Cinco Ribeiras, with a final visit to the Cheese factory of Cinco Ribeiras and the swimming areas. Finally we follow direction Angra do Heroísmo passing through S. Mateus.
