« Technical Excursion »

Both excursions below are presented in alternative to the 7th of July 2007. The first one (Excuersion in Terceira Island) is included in the registration fee. The second one requires a specific fee and registration with the secretariat of the Meeting.

1 - Technical Excursion TERCEIRA

Excursion included in the registration fee both as particpant and/ or accompanying person.
We advise you to wear comfortable shoes or tennis for walking (optional), sun protector and a bottle of water

Program:

Departure direction to Monte Brasil, situated in the extreme of the city and also extreme of the island, following the Eastside of the island we can visit the Castle of St. John Baptist. Direction to follow after is west heading to S. Mateus where the fishing harbour can be appreciated. Forward on the way, we will visit and taste the cheese from the artisan cheese factory in Cinco Ribeiras and the pass through the sea coast side zone of Negrito. In the way we will pass by Doze Ribeiras, Serreta (where there is a very beautiful Forestal Park), Raminho, following to the direction to Biscoitos.
Lunch will be served in the Altares.
After lunch, we will visit the Biscoitos Wine Museum and the Swimming areas in Biscoitos.
Following by the road into the interior of the island we will visit the Mistérios Negros, the Lagoa das Patas, the Algar do Carvão and the Furnas de Enxofre (where the “heart of the island” is situated)and the Tentadeiros. In this zone a pedestrian walk will be leaded by some members of Nature Management Conservation of the University of Azores. If any particular person does not want to participate in this walk, he/she will be invited to stay and enjoy the views. The excursion will end back in Angra do Heroísmo.

2 - Technical Excursion S. JORGE

This excursion is not included in the registration fee neither as participant nor as accompanying person. To participate in this excursion you will have to register previously with the secretariat (Rita Costa or Filipa Amorim: Tel.: (+351) 239 836 068 or E-mail apdr@mail.telepac.pt).

The price of the excursion is 40 Euros per person.

Availability for this program is limited. Interested persons will be considered by chronological order.
If you are interested you should contact us as soon as possible.

Attention! Please read the description carefully and be aware that this is an adventure program requiring good physical condition.

This excursion will only take place under convenient weather conditions.
We advise you to wear comfortable shoes or tennis for walking (optional), sun protector and a bottle of water.

Program:

Departure from Terceira Island to S. Jorge will take place around 8 a.m. in a semi-rigig boat (see figure above). Trip will take around one hour and a half to two hours, with arrival to Topo (S. Jorge) around 11 a.m. The excursion will follow up to Fajã da Caldeira during the first pedestrian walk will take place (1 hour aprox.).Here people are advised to take a snack to re-establish the levels of energy for another walk (2 hours) direction to Fajã dos Cubres, where finally luch will be served (around 3 p.m.). After lunh is time to continue the way to Calheta, on the opposite side of arrival to the island, and get back to Terceira Island, where arrival is previewed around 7:30 p.m..

Participants’ reception will take place from 12h30 on, in the University of Azores – Pico das Urzes, where the sessions of Thursday (5th July) afternoon and Friday (6th July) will take place.

« Opening »

The Opening Session will take place in the Cultural Centre of Angra do Heroísmo, at 11 a.m., with the presence of the Secretary of State for Regional Development.

« Plenary Session I »

The First Plenary Session counts with the High Patrocinia of the Secretary of State for Regional Development and will discuss “The future of Regional Development and Cohesion policies”. This Session will take place in the Cultural Centre of Angra do Heroísmo, at 11:30 a.m. and is open to all interested people.

Lunches will take place in the University of Azores – Pico das Urzes, where the sessions of Thursday (5th July) afternoon and Friday (6th July) will take place.

« Plenary Sessions II »

The Second Plenary Session will reflect the general theme of the Congress «Recreating and Valuing Territories», and counts with the presence of international renowned academics in the area of Regional Science.

« Round Table »

The Round Table will reflect on the general theme of the Congress «Recreating and Valuing Territories», in particular, on the "Cooperation between Europe and Portuguese Speaking Countries”.
